Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Some people never leave home… I read a statistic once that that 80 percent of people live within 50 miles of where they grew up. This blows my mind. I’m not sure if this statistic includes people who left home for a few years and traveled then returned, or whether or not its just people that have never left. Granted, there are only of few of my friends who packed their bags and left our home city of Philadelphia. So when I look at the numbers it kinda seems right. I can’t comprehend why, with so much out there people wouldn’t want to go explore the world. I feel like its hardwired into our brains having evolved from hunting and gathering societies. I feel that I have to travel and experience as much as possible. You only live once so why not make the most of it right?

I think that the reason some people don’t venture away from their complacentcy at home is partially due to the society we live in. According to society if you don’t have certain materialistic possesions, aren’t married, and have kids by a certain age then you aren’t successful. Over the last few years I’ve been trying to minimize my belongings. Don’t get me wrong I do have a storage unit with a bunch of shit in it. However, if it were to burn down tomorrow there is nothing in there that I couldn’t live without. As long as I have a camera and some good music I’m fine. “Its only a matter of time until you stop owning your belongings and they start owning you”. I’m actually sitting at SEATAC writing this and have to go because I’m about to board my plane however I will finish this later. I will leave you with this quote, not sure who originally said it but I think its rad and its my website! Haha “You are alive… But ask yourself and be honest… Are you really living?”
